e. Amazon Rain Forest Misc Pt 1

To this point we have addressed specific topics within the area. Now we are starting to deal with the myriad of miscellaneous stuff which comprises the rain forest. Hopefully this will provide the flavor of what we experienced.

This is a cieba tree, know to us as a kapok tree. The flowers from this tree are (or were before the development of artificial stuff) dried and used in flotation devices such as life preservers.

This is a walking palm tree. With this root setup it actually can move up to a yard a year seeing more sunlight.

A huge millipede.

This is a three toed sloth. In Spanish they are called ozo perisoso, lazy bear.

This is a “pet” sloth. Not much fear of it running away, they don’t move very fast and as long as they have something to eat, they are content.

This is our gude, Celso Hidalgo, an Indian born and raised in this same area. His English is excellent and he really knows his flora and fauna, knowing names in English as well as Spanish.

This tour of the Amazonian Rain Fores was a pre-tour option on our Machu Picchu to Galapagos tour. Although the main tour had 16 people, we were the only 2 to partake of this pre-tour option. The man in the boat with us was on a 4 day break in his business so was on his own and joined us for travel with our guide and for meals.

Boats such as this are the main personal means of transportation as well as fishing on the Amazon.
