We went to visit a typical backcountry village and to observe and participate in a traditional dance. It could be assumed that within 10 minutes of the departure of the visitors, the people were back into normal street type clothing. Whatever, it was interesting.

They wanted Carole to get into the dancing attire but she refused. The cheap blue ponchos we were wearing were not part of the ceremony nor were they a fashion statement, they had to do with the rain we came through as we arrived at the village.

They gave us a blowgun demonstration followed by the opportunity to try them out. Harry after a couple missed shots hit the target. Unfortunately he must have been hiding when Carole took her shots because there are no pictures. She did hit the target though.

Of course, typical of all tourist attractions, we had the oppurtunity to purchase handicraft type stuff like masks, jewelry (make of seeds, beads, vines, etc.) and did buy some of these invaluable objects of art.

Some scenes along the river.

Piranha fishing. We were assured that this is the best place in the area to catch them. We used bloody beef as bait.

Apparently we should have used something other than beef, like maybe fingers or toes or something, because this was all we caught, 2 catfish.

We stopped at a giant lillypad place. These things were well over 3 feet in diameter.

This is a very small anaconda. They grow to over 18 feet, assuming they haven’t been killed for meat or skin.
